A private graveside service will be held at the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, Nebraska for Merlin M. Wright age 83 of Wayne formerly of Wakefield.
He passed away Tuesday at Careage Of Wayne.
No Visitation

Merlin Maurice Wright, son of Paul and Pearl Wright, was born January 20, 1929, on a farm south of Bartlett, Iowa. He departed this life on July 17, 2012, at the age of 83, following a lengthy illness.
Merlin attended elementary schools in McPaul and Hamburg, Iowa public schools. He was immersed into Christ at age nine by W. C. Cole, a visiting evangelist, at the Christian Church in Bartlett, Iowa. He graduated from Hamburg High School in May 1947, and from Nebraska Christian College, Norfolk, Nebraska in May 1951. After attending graduate school at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, he moved to Wakefield, Nebraska where he ministered to the Christian Church from January 1953 through August 1968. During his ministry the congregation erected a new worship facility at Third and Johnson Sts.
Changing careers, he moved to Wayne, Nebraska, in late 1968, where he worked as a staff writer and editor of the Wayne Herald newspaper three years. In November 1971, he again changed his field of work and was employed by the State of Nebraska as a probation officer in the Nebraska State Probation System, which included writing presentence investigations for the Nebraska Supreme Court. After working in the court system for nearly 20 years he retired February 1, 1991 in Wayne.
Merlin learned to fly private aircraft at age 17 and held a commercial pilot's license. As a freelance writer he authored numerous articles for the CHRISTIAN STANDARD of Cincinnati, Ohio, wrote a variety of feature stories for the Wayne Herald, compiled and maintained an internet web site for the Wakefield Christian Church.
Merlin authored the 1984, church history book for the Wakefield Christian Church marking the church's centennial. As a journalist he wrote a weekly column for the Wayne Herald for five years, and wrote numerous editorials, concluding in early 1998.
He is survived by a brother, Timothy Lee Wright of Mesa AZ.
He was preceded in death by his father Paul Wright, his mother Pearl, and sisters Deloma and Joyce.
