Franklin Gilmore age 78

Funeral services for Franklin Gilmore age 78 of Carroll are being held at the United Methodist Church in Carroll, NE. on  
Friday, August 10 at 10:30 a.m. He died Monday at his home in Carroll.
 
Visitation: Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
 
Interment: With Military Rites at Elmwood Cemetery in Carroll.
 
Memorials may be directed to Hospice at Providence Medical Center in Wayne and the Carroll United Methodist Church.
 

Franklin Shedric Gilmore was born October 16, 1933, at Oklahoma City, OK to Howard and Margaret (Connett) Gilmore. Because of his mother’s death shortly following his birth, Franklin was raised and loved by his uncle and aunt, Edgar and Edna Connett in Faucett, MO. He graduated as salutatorian from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO in 1951. He then graduated from University of Missouri in 1955, College of Agriculture, and was in ROTC throughout high school and college. He served as 2nd Lieutenant and was company commander for basic training unit in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He completed his military service as 1st Lieutenant in 1957, then entered the farm credit field. He worked for PCA in Missouri from 1958-1972, then moved to Carlinville, IL and worked at various banks in Illinois and Michigan. Franklin married Mary Wyatt Meier, December 31, 1954, in Smithville, MO and to this union three children were born before her death in Standish, MI. Franklin married Susan Karony, September 4, 1981 in Standish, MI and they moved to Carroll, NE in August, 1983. Franklin took a position at Cones State Bank in Pierce before purchasing an interest in Farmers State Bank in Carroll. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Past Post Commander of American Legion Post #165, Logan Creek Pheasant’s Forever, Chairman of Carroll Housing Authority, Carroll Village Board of Trustees, former Mayor of Carroll and President of the Bank Holding Company. He loved fishing, visiting with friends and family, and was a master story teller.
Franklin is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Margaret (Brian) Oberhelman of Laurel, Stanley (Sharon) Gilmore of Spokane, WA, and David (Nori) Gilmore of Greenfield, NH; exchange student sons, Morten Lundsgaard-Degn and Anders Lundsgaard, both of Denmark; four grandchildren, Dr. Christina (Dr. Michael) Ryan of Seattle, WA, Julia (Matthew) Brownell of Toddsville, IA; Clayton (Molly) Bratcher of Wayne and Ernest Bratcher of Belden; six great-grandchildren, Brittney Bathke, Tanner Brownell, Ashlynn Bratcher, Leilah Bratcher, William Ryan, and Baby Ryan; half-brothers, David (Kris) Gilmore of Cameron, WV, and Russell Gilmore of Walthill, NY; brothers, Charles Connett of Faucett, MO and John (Jane) Connett of Roseville, MN; brother-in-law, Walter (Carol) Karony of Elmhurst, IL; and several nieces.
Franklinwas preceded in death by his parents; guardians; first wife; grandson-in-law, and two grandchildren.
Franklin’s family appreciates your thoughts and kindness and invites you to lunch at Roosters on Main Street in Carroll following the committal service.
