Funeral services for Lawrence “Smitty” Smith age 86 of Wayne will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne on Friday, September 14th at 10:30 a.m. He passed away Wednesday at Careage of Wayne.
Visitation:  Thursday   5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at
Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
 Officiate: Rev. Bob Oleson
Interment: With Military Rites at Greenwood Cemetery Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

   Lawrence Robert Smith, son of Robert and Ella (Kennedy) Smith, was born May 2, 1926, at Laurel.  He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Laurel and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne.  He attended Wayne Prep School, graduated from Wayne High School, and Eastern Iowa Radio at Davenport, Iowa.  Lawrence served in the United States Army Air Force from 1944-1945. Lawrence married Lavonne Longe August 18, 1950, at the First United Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The couple lived in Wayne where Lawrence was employed at Wolske Auto Service.  He later worked at Convair in Palmdale, California, Weich Motors in Dewitt, Iowa, then owned and operated Smitty’s Auto Clinic in Wayne.  He is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #43.
    Lawrence is survived by his wife, Lavonne; two sons, Dr. Mark (Alice Fast) Smith of Kirksville, MO. and Duane (Maureen) Smith of Caldwell, ID; three grandchildren, Jeremy Braadland, Allison (Don) Hart, and Mellissa Braadland;    nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Young-Bergt of West Point; sisters-in-law, Marcelline Langenberg of Lincoln and  Shirley Tietgen of Wayne; nieces and nephews.
    Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin on August 21, 2012.
    Lawrence’s family appreciates your thoughts and kindness and invites you to lunch in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
