Blue Devil Volleyball Goes 1-2 At Wisner Invite

WISNER (KTCH/KCTY) – The Wayne High volleyball team was in action over the weekend, competing in the Wisner-Pilger Invitational on Saturday.
In their first match of the day, the Blue Devils beat Humphrey St. Francis in three sets 25-27, 25-20 and 25-5. Sarah Maxson paced the hitting attack with 11 kills, backed by 10 kills from Madison Frevert and nine from Emma Evetovich, who also contributed 22 set assists. Sydney McCorkindale added 19 set assists, while Meagan Backer and Alyssa Schmale each had 19 digs, followed by Jessica Bierman and Frevert with 18 and 15 digs, respectively. In the second game, Wayne faced Chambers-Wheeler Central, falling in two sets 24-26 and 24-26. Maxson, Sydney Burke and Frevert each had five kills for the Blue Devils. Backer had 15 digs and Evetovich had 12 kills. In the final game of the day, Wayne played Pierce, falling to the Bluejays 18-25 and 12-25. Burke led with four kills, while Backer had 11 digs and McCorkindale added eight set assists. The Blue Devils are now 6-8 on the year.
