WSC Volleyball Bests Bemidji On Saturday

BEMIDJI - Freshman outside hitter Lauren Sieckmann recorded match high 21 kills on 43 attacks to lead #21 Wayne State College in a 3-0 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win at Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon. Scores of the match were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20. The Wildcats improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC while the host Beavers fall to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The Wildcats notched 45 kills and six errors on 105 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .371 in the contest while Bemidji State recorded 37 kills and 17 errors on 107 total attacks for an attack percentage of .187. WSC also held advantages in assists 42-36 and total team blocks 8-3 while BSU had the edge in digs 51-46. Both teams were credited with four service aces in the match.
Sieckmann led WSC in kills with 21, her third match with 20+ kills on the season, and had an attack percentage of .442 with two errors on 43 attacks. Cori Hobbs was also in double-digit kills as she hammered home 10 balls with one error on 26 total attacks for a percentage of .346. Setter Leisa McClintock dished out 38 of the team’s 42 assists and libero Courtney VanGroningen racked up almost a third of Wayne State’s digs with 15 of 46. Alex Armes and Lexi Malm tied for the lead in blocks as each player stuffed BSU four times.
The Wildcats will be in action again tomorrow night, September 25th, when in-state opponent Chadron State heads to Rice Auditorium with the match set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
