WSC Volleyball Beats Chadron State In Four Sets

WAYNE - Lauren Sieckmann and Cori Hobbs recorded 13 and 12 kills respectively to lead #20 Wayne State in a 3-1 non-conference college volleyball win over Chadron State Tuesday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  Scores of the match were 25-18, 18-25, 25-18 and 25-20.  WSC is now 11-3 on the season while Chadron State falls to 3-10.
            WSC won the match despite recording 24 attack errors, the second-highest total for the Wildcats this season.  The ‘Cats captured the first set 25-18 thanks to 13 kills while forcing Chadron State into eight attack errors.  CSC tied the match with a 25-18 win in the second set, but WSC regained the momentum and won the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-20 to win the match 3-1.
            Sieckmann finished with a double-double recording 13 kills and 12 digs to lead WSC while Cori Hobbs finished with 12 kills.  Senior middle hitter Alex Armes had nine kills with a .471 attack percentage and also notched a team-high six blocks in the win.  Freshman setter Leisa McClintock handed out 36 assists and had 11 digs and four blocks while freshman libero Courtney VanGroningen had a team-high 21 digs with freshman Katie Hughes adding 13.
            WSC hit .176 for the match compared to .150 by Chadron State.  The ‘Cats had a 10-8 advantage in blocks over the Eagles.
            The Wildcats will be at home again this weekend, hosting Minot State Friday evening at 7 p.m. and the University of Mary Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Northern Sun Conference contests at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
