Wayne High Softball Wins Yutan Invite

YUTAN (KTCH/KCTY) - The Blue Devil softball team competed at the Yutan Invitational tournament over the weekend, going 3-0 en route to the championship.
In the first game, Wayne beat Tekamah-Herman 7-1. Jalyn Zeiss was 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and a double. Megan Hoffart was 2-3 with an RBI and Victoria Kranz was 2-4. McKenna Gibson was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and a walk, while striking out seven. In the second game, Wayne blanked Cozad 8-0 in six innings. Emily Leeper was 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Zeiss was 2-3 and Hoffart went 2-4 with an RBI. Gibson again got the win pitching, throwing a four-hitter, walking one and striking out 10. In the Championship game, it was Wayne over Ashland-Greenwood 9-3. Gibson went 3-4 hitting, followed by Sydney Harris who had a pair of RBI singles. Lauren Gilliland added an RBI double and Hannah Gamble had a base hit. Gibson allowed two earned runs and eight hits pitching, while walking three and striking out seven. The Blue Devils are now 21-4 on the year and play at South Sioux City this evening.
