WHS Volleyball Wins Own Invitational

WAYNE (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High volleyball team hosted an invitational round robin tournament on Saturday, September 29th. The Blue Devils went 3-0, improving their season record to 13-8. In the first game, Wayne downed Wakefield in two sets, 25-15 and 25-10. Emma Evetovitch and Sydney Burke paced the hitting attack with seven kills each. Sydney McCorkindale handed out 14 set assists, while Jessica Bierman and Meagan Backer each contributed 10 digs. In the second game Wayne again won in two sets, this time over Laurel-Concord/Coleridge. Score of the match were 25-10 and 25-18. Burke led with five kills, while McCorkindale had nine set assists along with Evetovitch’s seven. Backer also had 10 digs. In the final game, Wayne bested Randolph in two sets 25-20 and 25-20. Burke had eight kills, Evetovitch had seven kills and Madison Frevert added six kills for the Blue Devils. McCorkindale and Evetovitch had 13 and 11 set assists, respectively. Backer added 13 digs, along with 10 from Bierman. Wayne will host Pierce on Tuesday.
