Wayne Softball Team Advances To C-4 Semis

WISNER (KTCH/KCTY) - It’s on to the semi-finals for the Wayne High softball team, competing in the Class C, District 4 tournament in Wisner.
The Blue Devils had a bye to the second round of the tournament, where they faced Wisner-Pilger Thursday afternoon. Wayne started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Hannah Gamble scored on an RBI single from Victoria Kranz. During the next at bat, Kranz was driven home by Sydney Harris. Wayne led 2-0 after an inning. The Blue Devils continued the scoring, adding two runs in the second inning, three in the third inning and two more in the fourth. Kranz was 3-3 at the plate for Wayne, scoring twice. Harris was 2-3 with an RBI, also scoring two runs and Megan Hoffart, our Subway player of the game, was 2-3 with a double and three RBIs. Also adding hits was Lauren Gilliland with a base hit and an RBI, and McKenna Gibson with a base hit. Gibson was also the winning pitcher,, allowing just three hits and a walk, while striking out three. Kalin Hingst and Suzanne Ras each had singles for the Gators, while Samantha Lierman hit a double. Ras took the loss pitching for Wisner-Pilger, going three innings, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and two walks. Sadie Hermelbracht pitched an inning in relief allowing two runs on a hit and a strikeout. Wayne is now 23-4, and will play the winner of Pierce vs. Twin River tomorrow morning at 11:00.
