WSC Volleyball Falls In Five Sets To Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. - #10 Minnesota State rallied for a 25-21, 20-25, 14-25, 25-22 and 15-12 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win over #18 Wayne State College Friday evening at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minnesota.  Both teams are now 6-2 in the NSIC with Minnesota State now sitting 12-4 overall while Wayne State has a 13-4 overall record.
            The host Mavericks had 68 kills to 52 for the Wildcats, but WSC outhit MSU slightly .192 to .186 as the Wildcats forced the Mavericks into 31 attack errors while WSC had just 18.  Wayne State held a 12-9 edge in total blocks over Minnesota State and had six service aces to four by the Mavericks.
            Junior outside hitter Cori Hobbs led Wayne State with 19 kills and 13 digs while freshman Katie Hughes contributed 14 kills and 31 digs while hitting .297 in the match with just three attack errors.  Senior rightside hitter Melanie Placke added nine kills and had five blocks for the Wildcats.  Redshirt freshman setter Leisa McClintock handed out 43 set assists with Courtney VanGroningen accounting for 16 digs.  Junior Tatum Wroblewski was credited with a team-high three service aces in the contest.
            For Minnesota State, Chelsea Fogarty had 19 kills and 21 digs followed by Courteney Steinhauser with 14 kills.  Ellie Van De Steeg had 63 set assists and 10 digs for the Mavericks with Briel Hendricksen credited with 20 digs. 
            The Wildcats will be in action again Saturday afternoon visiting #6 Concordia-St. Paul in a 4:30 p.m. Northern Sun Conference contest in St. Paul, Minnesota.
