NORFOLK - An accident yesterday afternoon at Nucor Steel leaves a Hoskins man dead and a Norfolk man with possible internal injuries. According to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old private contractor Perry Hoemann was killed when he and Harold Claussen Jr., 49, were dismantling a large piece of old steel equipment. The men were cutting a counterweight off an old piece of machinery when the weight broke off, striking both men and the pay loader they were standing in. Hoemann was pronounced dead at the scene. Claussen was taken to Faith Regional Medical Center by Norfolk Fire and Rescue for possible internal injuries. The Nucor emergency response team and a Life Net medical helicopter also responded to the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
