Blue Devil Volleyball Wins First Game In C1-7 Subdistrict

PENDER (KTCH/KCTY) – The Wayne High volleyball team survived upset scares in sets one and four as they went on to beat Logan View 3-1 in the Class C1, Subdistrict 7 tournament last night in Pender. Scores of the match were 25-23, 19-25, 25-11and 25-20. The Blue Devils got off to a quick start leading by as many as five in the first set before Logan View came storming back to make things close. In the second set, the Raiders took control early and never let up, as they claimed their only set victory of the night. Wayne would bounce back with authority after dropping set two, to win by 14 in set three. Set four was a back and forth battle, but Wayne was eventually able to build a three point lead and work from there. Lexi Sokol led the Blue Devil hitting attack with 15 kills, followed by Sarah Maxson and Madison Frevert with eight each. Sydney McCorkindale and Emma Evetovitch each handed out 19 set assists. The Blue Devils did well defensively throughout the night, as Meagan Backer tallied 30 digs, to go along with 13 from Sydney Burke, a dozen from Maxson and 11 from Jessica Biermann. Wayne improves to 15-15 on the year and will face off against Ponca tonight at 7:00 in Pender for a chance to play in the District championship.
