Wayne State Men's Basketball Downs Midland In Exhibition

WAYNE - Senior guard Amry Shelby poured in a game-high 29 points to lead Wayne State College in a 64-46 men’s basketball exhibition victory Tuesday evening over Midland University at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
The game was close early as Wayne State held a 16-14 lead at the midway point of the first half. The Wildcats then closed the half strong with a 19-4 run to build a 35-18 lead at intermission with Shelby scoring 19 of his 29 points in the first half. Midland never got closer than 15 points in the second half as WSC held the Warriors to just 31.3 percent shooting in the game (15 of 48) as the Wildcats posted the 64-46 win.
Wayne State finished the contest making 23 of 43 shots from the field for 53.5 percent. The ‘Cats were 9 of 18 behind the three point line and 9 of 15 at the charity stripe. Shelby was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 29 points, making 10 of 14 shots from the field, 5 of 7 behind the three point line, and 4 for 4 at the free throw line. Derrell Williams and Ty Bauschek each added eight points while Williams hauled in a game-high eight boards for WSC.
For Midland University, Jalen Hueser poured in 11 points with James Parrott adding nine. The Warriors were 15 of 48 from the field for 31.3 percent including 6 for 23 from the three point line. MU was 10 of 17 at the free throw line.
WSC held a 35-28 advantage in rebounds over Midland but had 20 turnovers compared to 15 for the Warriors.
Wayne State will face Morningside College in an exhibition game on Tuesday, November 6th at 7 p.m.
