Ponca Bests Hartington Cedar Catholic In C2 Playoffs

Posted: 01 November, 2012

HARTINGTON (KTCH/KCTY) – It was a rematch of the 2009 Class C2 state championship last night, as Hartington Cedar Catholic hosted Ponca in the second round of the C2 football playoffs. The game was on pace to be a shootout early on as the teams scored on five straight possessions, having Hartington CC taking a 21-14 lead into halftime. In the second half, the momentum belonged entirely to Ponca. The Indians scored on their only two drives of the third quarter on a 17-yard run by Michael Walsh and a one-yard run by Wes Torson, his second of the evening. Ponca took a 30-21 lead into the fourth quarter and would score once more to make it 38-21 with 11:01 to go in the ballgame. The Trojans received a spark late as their quarterback Taylor Kathol plunged in for his third rushing touchdown of the night, this time from one yard out. That gave us the final score of 38-29 in favor of Ponca. The Indians will now advance to play Lutheran High Northeast on Tuesday in Norfolk.
