Wayne State Volleyball Gives Kneifl 200th Win

WAYNE - The 16th-ranked Wayne State College volleyball team gave head coach Scott Kneifl his 200th career win Saturday afternoon with a convincing sweep at the University of Sioux Falls in Northern Sun Conference volleyball. Scores of the match were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-13. The Wildcats improve to 20-8 overall and 12-6 in the NSIC with the victory while Sioux Falls is now 14-14 and 5-13 in league play.
Wayne State outhit Sioux Falls in the match .321-.079 with the ‘Cats recording 45 kills to just 27 for the Cougars. The Wildcats had 40 digs to 25 for USF and held a commanding 10-1 advantage in blocks over the Cougars.
Junior outside hitter Cori Hobbs had a big day for the ‘Cats with 16 kills and 15 digs for her 13th double-double of the season while freshman outside hitter Katie Hughes also posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Courtney VanGroningen added 11 digs while Leisa McClintock handed out 35 set assists.
Kneifl recorded his 200th career win in just his eighth season as head coach at WSC. He now sports an overall record of 200-68 and needs just 15 more wins to surpass Sharon Vanis (214-213 in 12 seasons from 1993-2004) for the most wins by a Wayne State College volleyball coach.
Wayne State will be on the road next weekend visiting Upper Iowa Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Winona State Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. to close out regular season play in the Northern Sun Conference.
