WAYNE - Max Martin of Wayne State College was named Monday morning the Northern Sun Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following his play in Saturday’s 17-14 Wildcat win at Upper Iowa. It’s the first time this season and third time in his career that Martin has received NSIC Player of the Week honors.
Martin, a 5-10 195 pound senior placekicker from Sioux City, Iowa (North HS), booted a 47-yard field goal with 2:13 remaining to give Wayne State a 17-14 win at Upper Iowa. It was his second game-winning kick this season, both on the road, and the fourth in the last two seasons. Earlier this season, Martin connected on a 42-yard field goal with just 35 seconds to play giving the Wildcats a 20-17 win at Bemidji State on September 15th.
For the season, Martin is a perfect 34 for 34 on PAT kicks and 12 of 17 on field goals. He ranks first in the NSIC in PAT kick percentage, ranks third with 12 field goals made and is fifth in kick scoring with 70 points, averaging 7.0 points per game.
Wayne State will close out the 2012 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 12 p.m. contest at #22 University of Sioux Falls.
