WSC Women's Basketball Gets Exhibition Win Over Simpson College

WAYNE - Sophomore guard Ashton Yossi scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Wayne State College women’s basketball team in a 74-56 exhibition win Thursday evening over Simpson College at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
WSC led 34-25 at halftime and scored the first 12 points of the second half to go in front 46-25. The ‘Cats built a pair of 25-point leads in the contest before finishing with the 74-56 win.
The Wildcats made 26 of 68 shots from the field for 38.2 percent including 9 of 31 from the three point line. WSC was also 13 of 16 at the charity stripe and out-rebounded the Storm 48-40.
Individually for Wayne State, sophomore guard Ashton Yossi scored 19 points including five three-pointers. Sophomore forward Jordan Spencer recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds while Wayne freshman Katie Hoskins produced 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench to go along with four blocked shots.
Simpson College made 18 of 61 shots for 29.5 percent and was 5 of 20 behind the three point line along with 15 of 16 from the free throw stripe. Kate Nielsen accounted for 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Storm while Chelsie Rohrs and Annie Gullickson poured in 10 points apiece.
The Wildcats, ranked 16th in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll and 24th in the Women’s Division II Bulletin Preseason Top 25, will open the 2012-13 regular season on Tuesday evening, November 13th hosting York College in a 7 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
