Morningside Advances To NAIA Football Semis

SIOUX CITY (KTCH/KCTY) - Morningside College advanced to the semifinal round of the NAIA national football playoffs with a 47-44 overtime win over Southern Oregon in Sioux City on Saturday. Wakefield native and quarterback Joel Nixon had a standout day, completing 28 of 42 passes for 346 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception. Nixon also carried the ball 20 times for 106 yards and a score. Defensively, Wakefield’s Colby Henderson tallied 11 total tackles, including nine solo, and an interception. The 12-0 Mustangs will host the defending national champions St. Xavier in the semifinals this Saturday.
