Memorial services for Darrel Metzler age 73 of Wayne will be held at Journey Christian Church in Wayne on Friday November 30 at 2:00 p.m. He passed away Monday at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Memorial visitation will be at Journey
Christian Church in Wayne on Thursday from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with family present
Interment with Military Rites on Saturday December 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Herman Cemetery in Herman, NE. Officiates: Rev. Troy Reynolds Rev. Justin Raulston. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date. Inquiries may be directed to Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.

Darrel Dean Metzler was born May 9, 1939, at Herman, Nebraska to Roy and Dorothy (Sheets) Metzler. He was Valedictorian of his graduating class at Blair High School and attended Dana College in Blair where he played baseball. Darrel entered The United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA and served from 1957-1959. Darrel married Lydia Marie Tilson, May 26, 1961, at Herman. He was very talented, did many jobs and did them well, serving as manager and foreman in various professions. They moved to Wayne in 1988, where Darrel worked for CTC, Zach Oil Co, Arnies, and Wayne State College. After retirement, Darrel worked part time at the Post Office and enjoyed farming with Chuck Rutenbeck. Darrel loved to be outside, fishing, bowling, golfing, gardening, and doing yard work, but most of all spending time with his grandkids and attending their activities. He also enjoyed coaching his kids baseball teams. Darrel was loved and will be greatly missed. Darrel had a wonderful family that meant everything to him.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Lydia; sons, Darrel Scott (Jaci) Metzler of Hartley, IA, Bradley (Jeannie) Metzler of Omaha, Tony (Jackie) Metzler of Gilbert, AZ, Troy (Esmeralda) Metzler of Chandler, AZ, Chad (Susan) Metzler of Wayne; daughter, Sarah (Jim) Rusk of Wayne; father, Roy Metzler of Blair; sister, Mona (Charlie) Eriksen of San Diego, CA; twenty-three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Darrel was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy and brother, Delbert.
