LINCOLN (AP) - U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry has been selected to serve on the prestigious House Committee on Appropriations.
The powerful committee oversees billions of dollars in federal spending. The Nebraska Republican's assignment begins when the new Congress convenes in January. In a statement, Fortenberry said he hopes to "build a culture of fiscal prudence, strategic foresight and creative collaboration within the fiscal process." It's been 22 years since a Nebraska representative served on the House Appropriations Committee, when then-3rd District Rep. Virginia Smith served on the panel.
