Wakefield's Nixon Leads Morningside Football To NAIA National Cahmpionsip

SIOUX CITY (KTCH/KCTY) - The Morningside College football team earned a trip to the NAIA national championship after blowing out defending national champion St. Xavier 47-19 in the playoff semi-finals Saturday in Sioux City. Wakefield native Joel Nixon completed 22 of 34 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 32 yards and a score to lead the Mustang offense. Defensively, Wakefield’s Colby Henderson had seven total tackles, including six solo as well as three pass breakups. The 13-0 Mustangs will face Marian University for the NAIA national championship on Thursday, December 13 in Rome, Georgia.
