NEW YORK (AP) – Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones has won the William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the top scholar-athlete in college football. Jones was announced as the winner Tuesday night at the National Football Foundation’s Hall of Fame induction and awards banquet in Manhattan. Jones already received an $18,000 scholarship for post-graduate studies for being one of 15 finalists. As the winner he receives another $7,000 in scholarship money. The other finalists included Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead.
