Wakefield Girls And Boys Win Over Stanton

WAKEFIELD (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wakefield girls’ and boys’ basketball teams hosted Stanton in a varsity doubleheader Friday night. The girls’ game saw Wakefield win in dominating fashion, 49-33. Our Subway player of the game, Wakefield’s Lauren Lehmkuhl, led the Trojans with 12 points, followed by Sydney Rose, McKenzie Rusk and Emily Puls with eight points each. Kennedy Cheyney led for Stanton with 12 points as well. The boys’ game was an old fashioned thriller that came down to the wire. Wakefield and Stanton were tied at halftime 23-23. The teams would tie and switch leads multiple times throughout the second half. In the end, it was Wakefield’s Jacob Lunz who played the hero, scoring the winning basket with two seconds left in the game, to give the Trojans a 45-44 win over the Mustangs. Lunz, our boys’ Subway player of the game, Led all scorers with 20 points. He was followed by Evan Nicholsen with 15. Cody Carlson and Adam Krentz led Stanton with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
