Frances Dorothy Nichols was born November 17, 1917, on a farm southeast of Wayne to Emil and Ida (Nelsen) Lutt. She was baptized and confirmed at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne. In 1936, she graduated from Wayne College High School. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught in a rural school in Dixon County. On February 14, 1940, she married Charles Nichols at a Lutheran Church in Fremont. The couple lived in Norfolk from 1941 to 1952. They returned to Wayne and farmed until retiring into Wayne in December 1970. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wayne, Century Club, Cuzins Club, Wayne Senior Center, Wayne Women’s Bowling Association and several card clubs. Frances enjoyed quilting, embroidery work, and attended many, many baseball, softball, and basketball games that her family members were involved in. She also enjoyed family gatherings and watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew up.
Frances is survived by her children, Larry (Mary) Nichols of Wayne, Glen (Sandra) Nichols of Wayne, and Connie Thompson of Laurel; nine grandchildren; and twenty- two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles in 1994; son-in-law, Chuck Thompson in 2000; and an infant brother.
Frances’ family appreciates your thoughts and kindness and invites you to lunch in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
