Blue Devil Basketball Teams Split At Scotus

Posted: 19 December, 2012

COLUMBUS (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High girls’ and boys’ basketball teams were on the road last night for a varsity doubleheader with Columbus Scotus. Things got off to a slow start offensively for the Lady Blue Devils, who trailed the Shamrocks 22-13 at halftime. Wayne would put together a strong third quarter however, and eventually pull to within three points, but that’s as close as they would get as Scotus finished the game on a scoring run, winning 49-32. Leading the way offensively for Wayne was Sarah Maxson with 14 points. The Lady Blue Devils are now 5-3 on the year.

The boys’ game had the makings of an old-fashioned barn burner, as it pitted 6-0 against 6-0. The game was tied 22-22 heading into the second quarter, and the Shamrocks took a 34-33 lead into halftime. But the second half belonged to the Blue Devils, as they would tally 20 points in the third period and 14 in the fourth to pull away late. The final score favored Wayne 67-56. Wayne was lead in scoring by Grant Anderson who finished with a stellar 31 points, followed by Ben Hoskins with 15 and Jalen Barry with 10. With the win, the Blue Devil boys remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season.
