SOUTH SIOUX CITY (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High boys’ basketball team was on the road Friday night, competing at South Sioux City.
Looking to remain undefeated, the Blue Devils jumped ahead 12-2 in the first quarter. The Cardinals would eventually slow the pace, and the game was tied 24-24 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to South Sioux City, as they would lead by as many as nine, but Wayne would eventually tie the game again early in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals would launch a desperation three pointer at the end of regulation that came up short, leaving the game tied and sending it into overtime, where the Blue Devils would prevail. The final score favored Wayne 53-51. Grant Anderson led the Blue Devil scoring attack with 22 points, while Jalen Barry added 10. With the win, the Wayne boys are now 8-0 on the year, and will next compete at the Great Northeat Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State College. They will face Laurel-Concord/Coleridge in the first round Thursday night at 8:30.
