Wayne State Track Teams Compete At Dordt Invitational

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Zach Thomsen, Carly Fehringer and Lachel Milander each scored first place finishes to lead the Wayne State College indoor track and field teams at the Dordt College Invitational held Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.  Other teams competing in the meet included Briar Cliff, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern, Sioux Falls and Nebraska-Omaha women.
                The WSC women excelled in the field events as the Wildcats dominated the shot put and weight throw.  Wayne junior Carly Fehringer set a new school record in the weight throw with a first place mark of 63’ 0”, easily topping her previous school mark of 60’ 7 ¾” set December 8th at the UNK Preseason Open.  The throw of 63’ 0” is also an NCAA provisional mark and currently ranks third best in NCAA Division II.  Fehringer also scored a fourth place finish in the shot put.
                The other first place finish for the Wildcat women came from senior thrower Lachel Milander, who won the shot put with a top throw of 46’ 2”, an NCAA provisional mark.  Milander also recorded a second place finish in the weight throw at 56’ 10 ¾”. 
                Other top finishers for the WSC women included Sara Wells taking second in the shot put, Emily Wells was third in the weight throw, Lexi Guhl took fourth in the 55 meter hurdles while Amanda and Ashley Ramberg each tied for fifth in the high jump.
                The WSC men were led by Wayne sophomore Zach Thomsen, who captured first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.96 while teammate Jared Balady was fourth at 2:00.27.  Matt Peter had a solid second place finish in the shot put (47’ 7”) while Caleb Dillon took fourth in the weight throw at 48’ 11 ¾”. 
                Wayne State will be in action again next Saturday hosting the Wildcat Open at the WSC Recreation Center with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m. and running events starting at 12:30 p.m.
