Posted: 18 January, 2013

WAYNE - A one-vehicle accident South of Wayne Thursday night sent one man to the hospital. According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, at about 8:30 last night, a southbound pickup truck  driven by Patrick Onderstal of Wakefield left the roadway and struck a pile of trees one mile west and four and half miles south of Wayne. The Sheriff’s Department said Onderstal was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was taken to Providence Medical Center by the Providence Medical Center ambulance where he was treated for his injuries. It is unknown at this time if Onderstal was wearing safety restraints. Alcohol consumption is believed to have played a factor in the crash. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash and was assisted at the scene by the Wayne Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Providence Medical Center’s ambulance crews and the Nebraska State Patrol.
