WSC Track And Field Teams Compete In Mankato

MANKATO, MN - The Wayne State indoor track and field teams competed at the Minnesota State Open held Friday night and Saturday at the Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minnesota.  Other teams competing in the meet included Augustana, Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota Duluth, Northern State, St. Cloud State, Winona State, Carleton College, North Iowa Area Community College and several athletes from the University of Minnesota.
                The lone first place finish for the Wildcats came from junior thrower Carly Fehringer, who won the weight throw with a top mark of 61’ 10 ½”.  She also finished fourth in the shot put at 45’ ½”.  Junior Sidney Blum placed well in two events, taking second in the triple jump (35’ 10”) and third in the long jump (17’ 4 ½”) while senior thrower Lachel Milander earned a third place finish in the shot put (45’ 11 ¼”) while taking fourth in the weight throw (58’ 2 ½”).  Morgan Swanson added a third place finish in the triple jump with a top makr of 34’ 9”.
                The Wayne State men had a pair of second place finishes to lead the way as senior thrower Brad Wright took second in the shot put at 50’ 6 ¼” while sophomore Zach Thomsen scored a second place finish in the 800 meter run at 1:56.55. 
                Other top finishers for the Wildcat men included Jared Balady taking third in the 800 at 1:59.05, Matt Peter was fourth in the shot put (46’ 10 ¼”), Caleb Dillon finished fourth in the weight throw (49’ 2 ½”), Greg Tracy took fourth in the 5,000 meter run (16:25.77) and the 4 x 400 meter relay team was fourth in a time of 3:29.97.
                Wayne State will be in action again next weekend traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Husker Invite Friday night and Saturday while other athletes compete in the Nebraska Wesleyan Quadrangular in Lincoln on Saturday.
