Propane Tank Leak Causes Highway 35 Closure

Posted: 08 February, 2013

WINSIDE (KTCH/KCTY) - A propane leak closed down a section of Highway 35 about 7 1/4 miles west of Wayne for over three hours Friday afternoon.
According to a Wayne County dispatcher, someone was attempting to move a 1,000 gallon propane tank earlier this afternoon when it rolled over near the 35/98 junction north of Winside, forcing the valve on the tank open and causing it to leak. A portion of Highway 35 extending east from the 35/98 junction towards Wayne was closed and detours were used to avoid the area. An evacuation notice was also put into effect for a one mile radius around the junction. No injuries have been reported. Winside and Carroll Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
