Blue Devil Girls And Boys Win Big At Madison

Posted: 09 February, 2013

MADISON (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High girls’ and boys’ basketball teams were on the road last night, competing in a varsity doubleheader at Madison. In the girls’ game, Wayne took an early 10-4 lead and wouldn’t look back, as they went up 29-13 at halftime. The Lady Blue Devils were outscored by Madison in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for the Dragons, as Wayne went on to win 49-34. Leading the way offensively for Wayne was Angie Nelson with 13 points, followed by Sarah Maxson with 11. The game marks the last regular season contest of the year for Wayne who, with the win, improves to 13-11 on the year. Wayne will face Ponca in the C1-7 Subdistricts in Wisner on Tuesday.

The Wayne High boys got off to a huge start as well, scoring 13 and 20 points in the first two quarters to lead 33-18 at halftime. Stingy defense from the Blue Devils would allow just 10 second-half points from the Dragons, as Wayne went on to win 61-28. Wayne’s Jalen Barry and Grant Anderson led all scorers, with 19 points each. The Wayne boys are now 18-4 on the year and will face GACC and Pierce next week, before starting Subdistrict play on the 19th.
