Wurdeman Issues Defense Statement On Recall Petition
Posted: 14 February, 2013
WAYNE - Recall petitions have been issued for Wayne County Commissioner Kelvin Wurdeman. The statement of reason(s) for recall submitted by principal circulator Jerold Meyer:
“Acting as Wayne County Commissioner, Kelvin Wurdeman has been caught, convicted and severely fined for the willful theft and fraudulent sale of county property. As documented, the request of certain entities to have Commissioner Wurdeman removed from positions he holds on their boards has permanently damaged his ability and trustworthiness to assist Wayne County in governing effectively, confidently and honestly.”
The statement of defense submitted by Wurdeman, which was limited to 60 words, reads as follows: “It was longtime County practice to sell scrap iron in an individual’s name, not County name for Road District petty cash fund. Money never left county property and all money was accounted for. I’m on same number of entities this year as last year. Other two commissioners requested me to chair Board of Equalization because of my knowledge and experience.”
To place the recall question on a ballot Meyer must submit 250 valid signatures from Commissioner District 1 on or before March 15th. This number is based on 35 percent of the total votes cast for that office in the 2010 General Election.
