LINCOLN (AP) - The Nebraska State Patrol has bestowed its Honorable Service Award on two troopers injured in the line of duty.
The troopers, Timothy Flick of Scottsbluff and Brian Detlefsen of Norfolk, were recently presented the awards during winter troop meetings. Flick was honored for his actions June 12 in a standoff at an Alliance pharmacy in which he was twice shot by 27-year-old Andres Gonzalez. Gonzalez took the pharmacist hostage during a botched drug robbery and wounded two other officers and the pharmacist before he was killed in a shootout with police. Detlefsen was honored after being injured Dec. 18 when a man used his tractor to ram Detlefsen's cruiser. Authorities have charged 39-year-old Aaron White of Plainview with four felonies in the case, including assaulting an officer.
