Blue Devils Get Opening Round Win At State

LINCOLN (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High boys’ basketball team competed in the first round of the Class C1 state tournament Thursday at Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln. The Blue Devils faced off against Adams Central in a rematch from December 29 in which the Patriots won. The game was close early, as Wayne led 20-16 at halftime. The teams would battle throughout the second half, but Wayne never trailed. The Blue Devils were able to outscore Adams Central 13-8 in the third quarter, which helped propel them to the 48-39 win. The victory marks the first in the state tournament for Wayne since 2003. Three Blue Devils scored in double digits, led by Grant Anderson with 15 points. Jared Anderson added 13 points while Jalen Barry had 12. Wayne will face 27-0 Wahoo at 2:00 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Friday afternoon in the semifinals.
In the Class C2 tournament, Hartington Cedar Catholic defeated North Platte St. Patrick’s by a final of 56-49. The Trojans will face Sutton at 9:00 at Pershing Auditorium Friday morning.
