Rob Sweetland Named Wayne High Boys' Basketball Coach

Posted: 19 March, 2013

WAYNE - Wayne High School Athletic Director Rocky Ruhl has announced the hiring of Rob Sweetland as the next Wayne Blue Devils Head Boys’ Basketball Coach. Coach Sweetland, who currently teaches elementary physical education at Wayne, has a total of seventeen years of experience as a junior high and senior high basketball coach, fifteen of which have been at Wayne. Most recently, Coach Sweetland has served as Varsity Assistant Coach to Rocky Ruhl who retired as Head Coach of the basketball program earlier this month. Sweetland will continue to be the Head Girls’ Softball Coach, a position he has held for the past eleven years leading the Lady Blue Devils to a 294-58 record and many state tournament appearances. Athletic Director Rocky Ruhl states, “We are very excited for Coach Sweetland to take over the program and believe his experience and preparation for the position will be a great benefit to our basketball program.”  A quote from Coach Sweetland states, “I am grateful for the opportunity to take over a great basketball program. I have been able to learn under one of the best coaches in the state in Rocky Ruhl over the past 15 years.  It has always been a goal of mine to be a head boys’ basketball coach. I am excited for the future of the program and will work hard to see that it continues to excel.”
