Services for Joyce Thompson age 76 of Laurel will be held on Thursday April 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church
in Laurel. She passed away Monday at her home near Laurel. Visitation with family present will be held at the United Methodist Church in Laurel on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Laurel. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Joyce Ethel Thompson was born September 19, 1936, in Laurel to Clydeand Luella Mae (Bruggeman) Shively. She attended school near Laurel and later in Sioux City. She graduated from Laurel High School, along side Harold “Zeb” Thompson, who would become the love of her life. Joyce taught country school for one year. Joyce and Zeb were married, March 17, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church in Laurel. They farmed northeast of Coleridge, south of Laurel, and then west of Laurel where they were presently living. They enjoyed spending time with their happily growing family. Joyce was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, ELT Club, and Laurel Cemetery Association.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Harold “Zeb” Thompson; sons, Scott (Deanna) Thompson, Steve (Jodie) Thompson, and Doug (Lisa) Thompson, all of Laurel; daughters, Deb (Jeff) Billiar of Upland and Patsy Gubbels of Laurel; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan (Karen) Shively of Arvada, CO; a sister, Darlene (Ray) Cuba of Concord; a sister-in-law, Marjean Shively of Norfolk; nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; a brother, Allan Shively; a great-granddaughter, Joslynn Specht; and a grandson-in-law, Rod Graf.
