Throwers Shine Again For Wayne State Track And Field Teams

SEWARD - Throwers Carly Fehringer, Lachel Milander and Sara Wells each hit NCAA automatic qualifying marks Saturday to lead the Wayne State College track and field teams at the Concordia Outdoor Invitational held in Seward, Nebraska.  Teams competing at the meet included host Concordia University, Doane College, Hastings College, Midland University, Nebraska-Kearney, Nebraska Wesleyan, Northern State, Wayne State, York College and Colby Community College from Kansas.
                The WSC women’s team again was dominant in the throws with two NCAA automatic marks, two NCAA provisional marks and one new school record.  Junior Carly Fehringer uncorked the top throw in the hammer on Saturday with a new school record and NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 206’ 11”, breaking the previous school mark of 196’ 4” set by Lachel Milander at the Wildcat Classic on March 30th.  She also placed fifth in the shot put at 46’ 1 ¼”.
                Sara Wells also hit an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and took first place in the shot put with a top throw of 49’ 7” and recorded a third place finish in the discus at 152’ 0”. 
                Lachel Milander was second in the hammer throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 200’ 11” and was also sixth in the shot put.  Emily Wells reached an NCAA provisional mark by placing fourth in the hammer throw at 180’ 7” while Mackenzie Masching also hit an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw with a sixth place effort of 170’ 9”. 
                Junior Sidney Blum scored a first place mark in the triple jump at 36’ 11 ½” while also placing eighth in the long jump.
                The WSC men’s team had one first place finish and one new school record as sophomore Jon Williams captured first in the javelin with a heave of 168’ 3”. 
                Senior thrower Brad Wright set a new school record in the discus for a third straight week by taking third at 172’ 10” to break his previous school mark of 170’ 10” set last Saturday at the Vance Butler Invite at Augustana. 
                Other top finishers for the WSC men included Matt Peter taking sixth in the shot put at 51’ 1” while Michael King placed eighth in the 200 meter dash (22.77) and ninth in the 100 meter dash at 11.14 seconds.  Zach Thomsen was eighth in the 800 meter run (1:59.12), Bryan Dunn took ninth in the hammer throw (163’ 8”) and Greg Tracy was ninth in the 5,000 meter run (15:35.45).
                Wayne State will be in action again next weekend competing in the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational at Lincoln on Saturday.
