ROCHESTER, MN - Theresa McMahon’s solo homer to lead off the third inning was the lone run of the game as Augustana College eliminated Wayne State 1-0 from the NSIC Softball Tournament Saturday evening at the Rochester Community and Technical College Dome in Rochester, Minnesota. The Wildcats finish the season with a 28-16 record.
Wayne State’s best scoring opportunity came in the second inning when the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out as Kylee Simpson and Megan Hagemann singled while Sam O’Brien reached on a fielder’s choice. But Michelle Thille hit into a fielder’s choice with Simpson thrown out at home followed by a strikeout by Lexie Loos to end the scoring threat.
Augustana’s Theresa McMahon then belted a lead-off home run to start the third inning off Wildcat starter Kelcie Bormann for what turned out to be the lone run of the ball game as the Vikings eliminated the Wildcats.
The Vikings had six hits in the game to five by Wayne State. Jordan King, Simpson, Hagemann, Kaiti Williams and Loos each singled for WSC in the game.
Bormann (6-6) suffered the pitching loss, giving up five hits and one run over four innings of work with two walks and no strikeouts. Freshman reliever Cassy Miller worked the final two innings and allowed just one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Wayne State has just one senior on this year’s roster, Kallee Pfieffer, and ties a school record with a seventh consecutive winning season.
