Wildcat Track And Field Teams Qualify Six For Nationals

WAYNE - Wayne State College has qualified in nine events for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Track & Field Championships to be held May 23-25 in Pueblo, Colorado.  The three day event will be hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo and held at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl.  The Wildcat women have five individuals competing in eight events while the WSC men have one qualifier in one event.
                Junior Carly Fehringer has qualified in two events for the national meet.  The Wayne native will compete in the hammer throw and shot put. Fehringer is ranked second in NCAA Division II in the hammer with a season best mark of 206’11” at the Concordia Invite on April 13th. She became the first-ever NSIC athlete to record a throw of over 200 feet in the event and is the NSIC Champion after setting a meet record last weekend with a first place toss of 203’6”. Fehringer will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 23rd at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Fehringer will also compete in the shot put on Saturday, May 25th at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time. She is currently ranked 14th nationally in the event with a season best throw of 47’ 9 ¼” at the Vance Butler Invite on April 6th.
                Junior Mackenzie Masching is a first time national qualifier in the hammer throw. The Lawton, Iowa native had a top throw of 172’6” and is ranked 21st nationally. She will throw on Thursday, May 23rd, at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
                Senior Lachel Milander is an automatic qualifier in the hammer throw after reaching a season best mark of 200’11” at the Concordia Invite on April 13th. The Pierce High School graduate is ranked fourth in NCAA Division II and will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 23rd at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time. She was also an indoor national qualifier in the weight throw in March.
                Junior Emily Wells will compete in the hammer throw and discus. She is ranked 11th nationally in the event after recording a season best throw of 180’10” to finish third place and earn All-NSIC honors at last weekend’s NSIC Championships in Sioux Falls.  She will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 23rd at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Wells is ranked 15th in the discus after recording a top throw of 155’10” at last weekend’s NSIC Championships in Sioux Falls.  She will throw the discus Friday, May 24th at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.
Sophomore Sara Wells has qualified in the shot put and discus after earning All-American honors in the shot put during the indoor season with a third place finish. The Albion, Nebraska native was NSIC champion in the discus last weekend with a season best mark of 162’0” and now ranks sixth in the country in the event which will be held Friday, May 24th at 5 p.m. Mountain Time. Wells was an automatic qualifier in the shot put, ranking fifth nationally with a throw of 49’7” at the Concordia Invite April 13th. She will compete in the shot put Saturday, May 25th at 3:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
The lone men’s National Qualifier for Wayne State College is senior thrower Brad Wright. The Ewing, Nebraska graduate ranks 15th in the discus with a season-best throw of 172’10” at the Concordia Invite on April 13th. He was also an NCAA indoor qualifier in the weight throw and will compete in the discus on Friday, May 24th at 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
