Busy Weekend Of Baseball For Wayne Ponies

UNDATED - In a busy weekend of baseball, the Wayne Ponies captured third place at the Wisner Livestock tournament. Wayne lost its opener 2-1 Friday night to Howells-Dodge. Adam Bentjen pitched a complete game and took the loss while striking out five. Wayne then got wins Saturday over Logan View 7-3 and Wisner 9-5 before losing a heart breaking extra inning game Sunday morning to the eventual tournament champion Howells-Dodge 13-10. From the mound, Caden Korth pitched a complete game win vs Logan View collecting five strikeouts, Tyler Lutt went 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the win against Wisner and on Sunday in relief Bentjen took the tough loss against Howells-Dodge. Offensively for the tournament Tucker Nichols led Wayne collecting five hits.  Bentjen added four hits with a double, Korth three hits with a three-run Home Run, Justin Dean three hits with a double, Lutt three hits, Lucas Longe two hits with a double, Ryan Jaixen two hits with a double, Brennan O'Reilly two hits, and Beau Bowers one hit.

Wayne then traveled home to play its final league game, beating Lyons 10-0.  Hunter Jorgenson pitched a complete game shutout notching 11 Ks.  From the plate, Bowers added two hits including a triple, Ryan Jaixen, and Tucker Nichols had two  hits apiece, Jorgensen added a long solo home run, while Tyler Lutt, Brennan O'Reilly and Will Anderson each record a hit.  After starting the TriCounty league 0-2 Wayne rattled off seven wins in its next 8 games to finish the season with a 7-3 league record.
