WSC Women's Soccer Falls In Season Opener

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Wayne State College women’s soccer team fell at Northwest Missouri State 8-1 Thursday afternoon in the 2013 season opener for both teams played at the Bearcat Pitch in Maryville, Missouri.

The host Bearcats used quick starts to each half to top the Wildcats as NWMSU scored two goals in the first 3:25 of the first half to grab an early 2-0 advantage.  Leading 3-0 at intermission, Northwest Missouri State struck quickly for two goals in the opening 3:34 of the second half to take a 5-0 lead.  Wayne State’s Macy Hagen scored for the Wildcats at the 53:45 mark of the second half with an assist going to Kelsey Engstrom to make the score 5-1, but Northwest Missouri State added three goals to make the final score 8-1.
Northwest Missouri State held a 24-10 advantage in shots and 13-4 edge in shots on goal over the Wildcats.  WSC did have five corner kicks compared to three by the Bearcats.  The Wildcats were whistled for seven fouls with three called on NWMSU.
Senior forward Macy Hagen scored the lone goal for WSC while freshman Kelsey Engstrom was credited with an assist on the score.  Junior McKenna Adams had a team high three shots for the Wildcats with Hagen and Engstrom adding two apiece.

Wayne State will be at home on Sunday afternoon entertaining Washburn in a 2 p.m. contest that will be played at Cunningham Field on the Wayne State College campus instead of the WSC Soccer Complex.
