WINNEBAGO, NE - Ho-Chunk, Inc., the economic development corporation owned by the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Ho-Chunk Village. The Ho-Chunk Village is a modern, mixed-use commercial, industrial, residential and master plan development located in Winnebago, Nebraska.
In 2003, a partnership was made to help tackle the lack of housing on the Winnebago Reservation. This partnership led to the creation of a town center of private homes, multi-family housing, commercial and industrial businesses, a community park and retail shopping.
The Ho-Chunk Villages’ residential segment features single and multi-family housing and senior living units. Additionally, it houses three industrial companies and multiple commercial businesses including a law firm, marketing company, gaming corporation, office products and furniture business as well as an art and learning center, retail store, restaurant and a general merchandiser.
“The 10th anniversary of the Ho-Chunk Village is another great example of how far we’ve come,” said Lance Morgan, President and CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc. “A lot of work has been done over the past 10 years to improve the Winnebago community and that effort continues to grow as we see additional families purchasing their new homes in the Ho-Chunk Village.”
In honor of the anniversary, Ho-Chunk, Inc. held a community celebration in the Ho-Chunk Village with food, family activities, presentations, prizes and giveaways. Local community members and Ho-Chunk, Inc. staff were present at the celebration with nearly 400 people in attendance.
Although the Ho-Chunk Village is a 40-acre development, there is an increasing demand for housing that will require additional land acquisition in the future. Currently, the Ho-Chunk Village has a college classroom and another set of senior living units in construction.
