Blue Devil Softball Is Class C Runner-Up

HASTINGS (KTCH/KCTY) – After the emotional rollercoaster that was the Bishop Neumann game, the Wayne High softball team had to rebound and play top-seeded Wahoo in the state championship, needing two wins to claim the title.
The Blue Devils, like they had all tournament, got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Wahoo answered quickly, however, scoring two runs in both the first and second innings to tie the game 4-4. Additionally, the Warriors put three runs up in the third inning to lead 7-4.
Both teams added a run in the fourth, as Wahoo now led 8-5. Wayne scored their final run in the top of the fifth by way of a Danica Schaefer solo home run, making it 8-6. Wahoo went on to score two runs in the sixth, making the final score Wahoo 10, Wayne 6.
With the win, Wahoo is the 2013 Class C state softball champion.
Wayne ends their season at 29-9 overall and as the 2013 Class C state runner-up.
