WSC Cross Country Teams Ninth And 13th At NSIC Meet

SIOUX FALLS - The Wayne State College men’s cross country team scored 265 points to earn a ninth place finish Saturday afternoon at the Northern Sun Conference Championships held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The ninth place finish for the Wildcats was a three spot improvement from last year’s NSIC finish.

Augustana easily captured a fifth straight NSIC men’s team title with 18 points, well ahead of runner up Sioux Falls with 84.  University of Mary (124), Minnesota Duluth (126) and Winona State (128) rounded out the top five teams.  Minnesota State was sixth at 132 followed by MSU Moorhead (138), Southwest Minnesota State (218), Wayne State in ninth with 265 points and Northern State 10th at 272 out of 13 teams competing.

Justin Brueggemann, a sophomore from Plattsmouth, was Wayne State’s top finisher coming in 40th out of 111 runners in a time of 26:56 on the 8,000 meter course.  Senior Greg Tracy was next in 57th place at 27:28 with fellow senior Garang Lual right behind in 59th place in 27:34.

Other WSC finishers were – Taylor Witt (62nd – 27:41), Adam Hochstein (67th – 27:57), Corbin Lehn (87th – 28:56), Nick Schmidt (98th – 29:54), Joey Black (102nd – 30:17) and Michael Eaton (106th – 32:03).
           
Wayne State will compete again on Saturday, November 9th at the NCAA Central Regional Championships also held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Wayne State College women’s cross country team placed 13th Saturday morning at the Northern Sun Conference Championships held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The Wildcats recorded a team total of 379 points out of the 15 teams competing in the meet.
           
Minnesota Duluth captured the team title with 50 points, ahead of second place Augustana’s 67.  Winona State was third at 84 followed by University of Mary (109) and MSU Moorhead (137) in the top five.  Rounding out the top 10 teams were Minnesota State (153), Sioux Falls (184), Minot State (226) with Northern State and St. Cloud State tied for ninth at 228 points.
           
Wayne State’s top runner was freshman Cristina Murillo, who was 56th out of 124 runners overall with a time of 23:39 on the 6,000 meter course.  Next for the Wildcats was West Point freshman Aryn Smidt in 82nd place at 24:25.  Cassidy Tinsley and Andrea DeSimone followed for WSC in 98th and 105th respectively with times of 25:39 and 25:54.
           
Other WSC finishers included – Jaden Wamstad (110th – 26:16), Laura Camacho (114th – 26:47), Holli Erickson (116th – 27:01), Nicole Garrison (117th – 27:04), Molly Kingsley (118th – 27:200 and Jordanna Trausch (120th – 27:49).
