Upper Iowa Shuts Out WSC In Women's Soccer

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa scored four first-half goals and went on to beat Wayne State 5-0 in Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer played Sunday afternoon in Fayette, Iowa.  The host Peacocks improve to 13-3 and 11-2 in the NSIC while dropping Wayne State’s record to 1-14-1 and 1-11-1 in league play.
The host Peacocks were aggressive in the first half, using a 17-3 advantage in shots to score four goals on the Wildcats, including one with just one second left in the first half.  The Peacocks added another goal at the 69:26 mark of the second half to make the final score 5-0.
Upper Iowa finished with a 23-12 edge in shots over Wayne State after the Wildcats outshot the Peacocks 9-6 in the second half.  WSC had one more corner kick than UIU, 5-4. 
For Wayne State, junior McKenna Adams had a team-high five shots with three on goal.  Kelly Voigt and Norma Volkmer each added two shots for the Wildcats.  Freshman goalkeeper Kylie Comba was credited with four saves in the contest.
Wayne State will close out their five-game road trip on Thursday with a 3 p.m. contest at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minnesota.
