Blue Devils Third At Mid-States Tournament

BATTLE CREEK (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High volleyball team was in action Friday night, competing in the consolation finals of the Mid-States Conference tournament in Battle Creek. The Blue Devils faced Hartington Cedar Catholic and beat the Trojans in three sets. Scores of the match went 27-25, 25-19 and 25-23. Ashton Schweers had 12 kills for Wayne, and Emma Evetovitch passed out 26 set assists. Four Blue Devils recorded double digit digs in the defensive effort, as Meagan Backer led with 30, while Alyssa Schmale had 18, Evetovitch recorded 16 and Schweers had 15. Wayne improves to 22-6 on the year with the third-place finish and will next play at the C1-7 subdistrict on Monday in Oakland.
