WSC's Jordan Spencer Receives NSIC Women's Player Of The Week Honors

WAYNE - Jordan Spencer of Wayne State College was named Monday afternoon as the Northern Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota for her play in four games last week.
It’s the second time this season and third time in her career that Spencer has received Northern Sun Conference Player of the Week honors.
The 5’11” junior forward from Millard West HS averaged 22.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game last week as Wayne State defeated #11 Augustana Monday evening followed by three wins in three days at the North Star Invitational in Fairbanks, Alaska where Spencer was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Spencer started the week with a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats in a 70-65 win over then #11 Augustana College. On Thanksgiving Day, she accounted for 23 points and tied a career high with 13 rebounds in a 98-67 win over Lees-McRae of North Carolina and closed out the tournament with a 26 point performance against host Alaska Saturday night in an 82-64 win over the Nanooks to clinch MVP honors of the tournament.
For the week, Spencer made 34 of 51 shots from the field for 66.7 percent and shot 61.8 percent (21 of 34) from the free throw line.
After eight games, Spencer ranks second in the NSIC in scoring at 21.1 points per game in just 24.8 minutes played per contest. She also ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (.631) and is 12th in rebounding at 7.4 caroms per game.
Wayne State, 8-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NSIC, returns to Northern Sun Conference play this weekend with road games at Sioux Falls Friday evening at 6 p.m. and Southwest Minnesota State Saturday at 5 p.m.
