WAYNE - The Wayne State College men’s and women’s cross country teams have earned the 2013 USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) All-Academic Team awards announced by the coaches association.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic cross country team, the school must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better and compiled a team score at their respective NCAA regional meet. Wayne State was also one of 89 Division II institutions to have both men’s and women’s teams collect the award.
The Wayne State men’s cross country team had a 3.08 grade point average and was one of 94 programs in NCAA Division II to receive the award. The Wildcats were one of just seven schools from the Northern Sun Conference to earn the academic honor and it’s the third time in the last four years that Wayne State has earned the coaches’ association academic honor.
The Wildcat women’s cross country team recorded a 3.01 grade point average and was one of 14 schools in the NSIC and 136 in NCAA Division II to receive the award. It’s the fourth time in the last five years Wayne State women’s cross country has collected the academic team honor.
