Thomsen #1 Qualifier in 600, Lahm Takes Fourth in Long Jump on Opening Day of NSIC Indoor Men's Track Championships

Wayne juniorZach Thomsen was the top qualifier in the 600-meter run, while freshman Derek Lahm placed fourth in the long jump to lead the Wildcat men's indoor track and field team on the opening day of the Northern Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Bemidji, Minn.
In the team race, Minnesota State leads with 63 points followed by Sioux Falls in second at 47.5. Augustana (35), University of Mary (29) and St. Cloud State (25) round out the top five teams while WSC scored five points and is in 10th place after the first day of competition.
Lahm, a freshman from Columbus Scotus, earned a fourth place finish with a leap of 22' 5".
Thomsen topped the field of runners in the 600 meter run in prelims with a time of 1:21.88, while junior teammate Jared Balady also qualified for Saturday's finals with the seventh fastest time at 1:23.77.
Senior sprinter Mike King also qualified for the finals in the 200 meter dash, recording the eighth fastest qualifying time in 22.85 seconds.
Saturday's final day of competition begins with field events at 10 a.m. and track events starting at 1 p.m. in Bemidji.
