Saints win Super bowl, Tournament results, WSC Women win, men lose, Records set in WSC track meet and more.

In Super Bowl 44 yesterday, the underdog New Orleans Saints won their first ever NFL championship with a 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints overcame a 10-point deficit to tie the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history.

In the Mid-State basketball tournament in Norfolk Saturday—

5th Place—Wayne High 42-Pierce 37
3rd Place—Hartington CC 47-Boone Central 39
Championship—West Point CC 55-Norfolk Catholic 49

The Lewis and Clark finals will be held tonight at Laurel. In the girls title game at 6pm, Wynot will play Homer and in the boys final to follow, it will be Ponca against Emerson-Hubbard.

The Wayne High girls have a make-up game tonight at Boone Central and will play tomorrow night at Hartington Cedar Catholic.

In NSIC play Saturday at Rice Auditorium, the Wayne State women upped their record to 17-4 with a 75-46 win over Augustana. For the Cats, Ashley Arlen earned her 7th double-double with 32 points and a career high 14 rebounds.

Augustana won the men’s game 70-54. WSC is now 9-12 on the seasons. Cats will host Winona State on Friday night and Upper Iowa on Saturday.

The WSC track and field teams took part in two meets this weekend in Lincoln and Vermillion. For the Wayne State women, Christina set a school record in the 400 meter dash, 55.81; Paige Pollard set a new mark in the 800 meter run, 2:15.7; and Andy Jansen set school records in the 400 meter dash, 49.78 and the 800 yard run, 1:14.75. This weekend the Wildcat Open is scheduled for the WSC Rec Center on Saturday.

Registration for the Wayne summer softball programs, girls 10 thru 18, is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5-7pm at the Activity Center.
